I get it.
You want the best for your dog. That’s what makes you a Visionary pet parent.
And to find the right food, you need to ask the right questions.
Questions like, “is this food low carb?” Or, “does this food meet all my dog’s nutritional requirements?”
Those are important questions. Questions we’re proud to say “YES!” to.
But sometimes…on rare occasion…we get a question that makes us think, “OK. We need to do a better job telling our story.”
More specifically, we get this question:
“Have you conducted AAFCO Feeding Trials?”
To answer this question, we need to first examine what an AAFCO feeding trial is. Then, we’ll look at what we did to validate our low carb, keto products at Visionary Pet.
Yes, we do take amazing photos of our products.
Let’s Talk About Feeding Trials
What are you having for dinner tonight?
That’s a real question for most people. And that says something important about us humans – we have CHOICE.
Many of us don’t know what we’re eating tonight, or tomorrow, or the next day. We choose what we eat on the day-of and we incorporate a wide variety of foods into our diet.
Now think about your dog…
You know EXACTLY what they’re eating tonight. It’s the same food they ate last night, and the night before that, and the night before that…
If your dog is eating the same food every day – then shouldn’t we make sure that food has all the macronutrients and micronutrients they need to live an optimal life?
AAFCO thinks so.
We do too.
And one way we evaluate dog food is to conduct a feeding trial.

What’s an AAFCO Feeding Trial?
The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) has an official protocol for what constitutes a feeding trial. Below are the requirements.
1. At least 8 animals must participate in the trial. 6 of the 8 need to complete the trial.
2. During the trial, the animals will only eat the food of interest.
3. The trial will last at least 6 months. Participants must pass a physical performed by a Veterinarian before AND after the trial.
A food fails if, during or after the trial, an animal shows signs of nutrient deficiencies or excess nutrient values.
This is the standard protocol that most dog foods use. And we applaud AAFCO for outlining this procedure and bringing nutritional standards to the pet food industry.
But when we decided to test out our Visionary Pet Beef Formula, we took the entire idea of a Feeding Trial several steps forward.
Creating a Ketogenic Dog Food
If you’re familiar with our story, you’ll know that we started this journey with our non-profit partner, KetoPet. Launched in 2015, KetoPet was established to investigate the ketogenic diet in dogs.
What KetoPet found, was that not only can a ketogenic diet be beneficial for dogs dealing with cancer and other serious disease; their findings also suggest that a ketogenic, low carb diet is the OPTIMAL diet for canine health and nutrition!

With this in mind, KetoPet created a comprehensive eBook and online calculator for their community. Using the KetoPet Calculator, Pet parents everywhere could create a ketogenic diet for their dog at home. (And still can!)
There was just ONE problem…
Most pet parents wanted a pre-packaged food.
Visionary Pet was created to solve this problem and give pet parents everywhere access to a keto, low carb dog food :)
And here’s how we validated that food.
Validating a Ketogenic Dog Food
Visionary Pet was the only pre-packaged food fed at KetoPet Sanctuary. It wasn’t called Visionary Pet back then, but it was the exact same formula.
The formula was developed and validated in approximately 120 DOGS over a period of 6 YEARS.
And over those 6 years, the KetoPet team consisted of all manner of veterinary specialists, animal nutritionists, and AAFCO consultants.
Not only did we test for nutrient values and common markers of inflammation, we looked at blood glucose and ketone levels to ensure that our formula is actually ketogenic.
And you know what?
We passed.

Why is my Russian boyfriend not as emotive like the American men I have dated
?Now I am trying to grasp my boyfriend a bit better. I will not want to stereotype him either but he is from Russia he was born and raised in Russia, And emigrated here 5 long ago, He is now 25 years. I curious if his behavior has anything to do with how he was raised:
1. He is not as emotional as the men are here. he doesn’t express himself readily, He would rather work then focus on emotion, i’ve never cried in front of him but I take it that he would be heartbroken if I ever cried. He only seems to precise himself when there we have an issue to discuss and its in person. So if i am very upset at him I want to share with you it immediately, And he can say "that’s just. after that. Go distract yourself at the moment, And he will go focus on work and school so I would be a little shocked ukraine marriage and annoyed because I not used to this treatment. I would certainly think he doesn care. But then he will beg me not to be upset and he will demonstrate it in person when we see each other.
2. truly vigilant, Very watchful of other men highly. He was not big on PDA at the beginning. He is slowly getting comfortable with hugging me but he won full on makeout with me in public. When we are in public he has to have an intense watchful eye towards all men that walk by sometimes he even looks intimidating and scary and I don know why.
3. Always has to know where I am especially wants to know the organization I keep has to russian chat know if I will be around any men.
4. Gets sorely offended when and if I don’t want to hug or touch him. He will most likely initiate it. When he touches me or hugs me and I pull away or move his hand away he gets really really offended and sad and thinks he did something really wrong or hard to take and he becomes insecure.
5. He doesn whine. He is so self contained. You will hear American guys complain about A Z If I don touch him he won complain but you can see he is visibly hurt and he will local plumber like "Did I want to do something,
Every one is different, But wedding ceremony a point, The culture someone is raised in has a large effect, The British male as an example, Was taught that showing emotions was a weakness, If you cried then you’re belittled, Even at the death of someone you love.
Being a male rather than having dated any one from Russia, I cant say from general observations, But it is likely that you could see some one from the USA that is even less emotional. Im not sure if any one has even attempted to make a companion distinct cultures, To isolate how each effects an individual where emotions have concerns.
